Lake Austin - KXAN
KXAN had a very good update on the fall of Lake Austin last night. Went over the over use of grass carp to completely eliminate the grass and every thing else that is green in the water. Said it would take 8 to 10 year to recover if nothing is done. They addressed the decline of bass fishing and the water quality problem. TPWL said that they are working on the problem. Looks simple to me but I am sometimes a little slow. Take out the carp!!! I know that there is a lot more to it than that but you have to start some where. There is a big difference in control and eliminate. My two cents.

Lake Travis 9-28-15
Hit the lake about 2pm and fished until 7pm. Ended up with a lot of small fish but caught a limit of keepers. Cant figure out how to post pics from my phone, sorry about that. All fish were between the shore and 15 ft of water within the heavy brush. Caught fish on every lure I threw.

Hey guys,
Anybody know of a good charter boat out of Monterey / South Bay? or know if I should look in a different area?
Don’t really care what we catch just looking to take a friend out for her first offshore trip and no idea where to begin looking. Aiming for Veterans day so have a little bit of time to do research. Any tips / advice would be greatly appreciated.

Guadapalooza 2015 - Looking to bacseat
(posted this on ttz and then forgot to post it here too. My bad).
Looking to backseat for the upcoming 2015 Guadapalooza tourney in late November. I can provide entry fees, gas money, beverages, tacos, tacquitos, basically anything to get me on the boat and in the tourney. I’ve never participated in a bass tourney, never caught a guad and never fished Travis (these are pros. I’ll show you below) I’ve listed out my pros and cons below.
Pros :
- Experienced bass fisherman from the bank of my local pond. And from the front deck of Charles Whiteds boat.
- Deadly efficient with a sabiki rig
- I hammer crappie
- I know how to fly fish
- I’m terrible with names, but I remember stupid(awesome)facts that have no relevance but seem to come up during business (thank you Gus Frerote head butt)
- I treat others boats w/ uber respect
- I have my own rods/reels/etc. Whatever tackle I don’t have I’ll buy.
- I have a sweet guad tat that I can have more made of
- I’ve never caught a Guad. I’ve never fished for a guad. Therefore I have zero bad habits.
Cons :
- probably that there is only one of me. And that I don’t have my own boat.
If you want you can vet me at the habitat build this fall if you want. I’ll be there (assuming it goes as planned and it’s before Guadapalooza). Shoot me a pm if you have interest.

Does anyone know why there is a massive water explosion on the LCR - a few miles downstream of the 183 put in, just upstream of where Boggy Creek lets in. There is a bouy marking it on river left. About every 20mins there is a massive explosion of water. You can hear what sounds like a gate open and there must be an underwater pipe that releases a ton of water.
I see it everytime I fish, and it’s driving me crazy - what the hell is that?

LBL saturday
Launched at 6am on Saturday to beat the crowds and get a parking spot at the ramp. Holiday Inn ramp is very nice. Headed up north to Barton springs. Scales decided to kick my butt throwing everything and catching something on everything. The water was filthy and there was not as much grass as I remember from last year at the same time. Sure were some carp actively feeding though. Biggest he caught was probably around 4lbs.
We headed into Barton Springs and a person in a yak using a fly rod to catch those elusive bluegill decided to well…Hey that boat is to big to be in here. Hey that lure is too big to fish in here. He continued on with more and even threw a bluegill toward us and yelled here have some bait…

Need lure selection help!
Trying to build up my freshwater fishing tackle box. Fished Saltwater for a long time and have tons of that stuff. What are some good lures to get right now? Please include color, size, etc.
So far I have a couple of white spinnerbaits, some Gamakatsu wide gap hooks, Senkos in Watermelon with Peal, and just picked up some Watermelon YUM Dingers. I heard KVD square bill lures are good but I have no clue which size, color, etc works best for right now.
I just moved to Lago Vista and will be fishing around the North Shore of Lake Travis mostly.

Lake LBJ black bass
My wife and I spend a week fishing LBJ once or twice a year. We generally fish the Colorado, Llano, and maybe a mile or so toward the main lake…We catch enough fish to make it fun. Recently while there we noticed there was a tournament on the lake somewhere. During the day we also noticed very few tournament fishermen in out part of the lake. That evening we checked the internet and found how some BIG fish were caught during the day. I must assume they were caught somewhere in the larger part of the lake…NOT where we normally fish. So, here is my question or request. We need some ideas on how to fish the other part of the lake . I have good maps and the boat has GPS. I just don’t really know where to start. Fished the lake for five hours. I had a hard time finding a decent bite. It got better and better as I went on. Caught a few in the four pound range, but a bunch of small fish. It’s tuff fishing right now, but the few good fish I did catch gave me a great fight.

Tracker Wet Sand and Detail!
Let me start by saying I had a repeat guide customer and his son today, and when he pulled up the first thing he said was…..“new boat huhh” I just smiled and said nope its the same one yall fished out of a couple months ago, it just got a face lift! Well it certainly does not look like the same boat. They did a fantastic job restoring my Cat back to what she is suppose to look like. I will get some pictures posted soon. In addition to the boat looking great I have to say their price was great! and I mean just that. This was something I shopped as is prudent on all big purchases. I originally got a quote at a weigh-in from a well know and respected company that specialized in this kind of restoration. I was quoted a price of $225 for a wet sand (Yes I have witnesses) which I though was out of this world. I got a price from Tracker which was more than that, so I decided to use company X. When I took the boat over to them they told me it would be $1700.00 for the restoration. When I reminded him of our conversation at the ramp he craw-fished and said that price was for a wash and wax, to which I replied I never said anything about a wash and wax. Needless to say I left and took it where I should have in the first place. When it was done the actual price was lower than what I was expecting (No where near $1700) and the boat looks great. Thank you Gary and crew for the standard Great Service and job y'all did on my Bass Cat. I’ll say this to anyone needing service in the Greater Austin Area, shop around everywhere you can and then shop Tracker, you will see, best people and the best service center around!

Beautiful Day on Lake Austin today
Caught a 3 ½ lber to start off the day around 8AM then we caught 4 more that were all less than 1- 1 ½ lbs. Caught all on zellpop and t-rigged BBH.
Boy was it a gorgeous day on the water. Not hardly any Wakeboard boats and the water was mostly smooth and like glass in places.
Zipped down the lake from south end to almost the low water bridge and weather was almost cool at times.
Planning on going back out first thing tomorrow morning with the wife just to gawk at the dream houses.

I have 3 ugly stick elite rods collecting dust in my garage.
I used them for a while until i upgraded some of my set ups.

Lake Pflugerville 9/23/2015
I have noticed this week that the LMB appear to be feeding more aggressively than they have been during the summer. I have been trying to use top water lures in the mornings but have not had any success so today I used only Senko’s. I did have a lot of action using Baby Bass wacky rigged Senko’s and used up all of my stock but had no luck using T-Rigged. I was catching them by casting from deeper water to the weed edges and although none were anything to brag about they did seem to very irritated about being caught. Also for the second day in a row was able to catch a LMB on my second cast of the day.

GeorgetownThursday Nighter 2016 BIG announcement
Before I go on to the BIG announcement. I want to give a BIG THANK YOU to Ronnie and Eddie Maynard! These guys have sacrificed their time for the last 18 years to run the Georgetown tournament. The way I figure they have run close to 500 events on Georgetown. Don’t get me wrong these guys aren’t going anywhere. Ronnie and Eddie will be fishing with us next year. We just wanted to give them a chance to take a break and enjoy themselves a little more while we work for them. The Lord knows they deserve it! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!!! So please when you see Ronnie or Eddie let them know how much you appreciate all that they do and have done for us. Shoot, I also need to give credit where credit is due. Like I said Ronnie and Eddie laid the ground work and ran an awesome week night event for the last 18 years + but I also want to say thanks to everyone on the TTZ staff for showing us how we can make a good thing even better. One person in particular that I would like to thank is Shawn Tamez. Shawn has been a big help to me. I know I’ll be leaning on him plenty in the future. So Thanks Shawn!! You too John, don’t be jealous. LOL!

We are going to blow it up for the guys and gals that fish Lake Georgetown. There will be the usual TTZ flare with the tent, banner, sign in table, lap top, wifi, the works, you know how we roll! We will be awarding an AOY prize for 2016 and we’ll kick off the season by giving away a pair of Costa sunglasses and Costa coupons for all that fish the first event! All of those items will be complements of TTZ! Oh and some Free Lone Star at weigh in. And I, Chris Baker, do solemnly swear to cook Dirty Burgers on the reg. We are also talking about a championship! The points system will model after the Thursday Nighters. We’ll also have the weigh in live using the TTZ Live Leader Board. Alan Green and myself will take the load off of Ronnie and Eddie by taking care of sign up, weigh in, and pay out. We’ll also make sure the stats and pictures are updated on the Friday after each event. I know there are going to be more questions so let’s here them. Also, I will have rules posted soon. They will basically stay the same with a few additions, nothing major. We will also be Skeeter Real Money sanctioned and I do expect to hit 60+anglers next spring! It’s going to be off the chain! One last thing…Expect surprises. You never know what we’ll throw at you next.

Georgetown Tuesday 9/22 results
I had the privilege of fishing with Booker again last night. The fishing was pretty good. We caught around 10 fish total. I say “we”. The truth is Booker put on a show for me. I got stuck in my old routine and he changed it up a bit by throwing a fluke and jerking it fast. It worked better than either of us expected.
The real news is the fish Kenny brought in. He had a 6 lb largemouth, a 4 lb largemouth, and a 3 lb smallmouth. Man that was a nice stringer! And Booker had a nice smallmouth too! Sounds promising!
Results:
11 boats fished
1st place Kenny and partner 3 fish for 13 lb 3 oz and a 6 lb 0 oz big bass.
2nd place David Dalamier? and son 5 fish for 5 lbs 9 oz

POC Offshore
Thanks to Fermin, Brooks and Clay for my first time to fish offshore along the Texas coast. We fished Texas waters for Red Snapper. Red Snapper from 4lbs to 35lbs on live piggy perch, live finger mullet and squid.
Also fished the POC jetties for Redfish. Mostly caught oversized reds on live finger mullet. On Saturday, it was a boat show at the jetties.
While fishing offshore, we caught lane snapper to 3-5lbs, triggerfish, chicken dolphin, strawberry grouper, undersized gag grouper, red lips fish, and several big fish breakoffs on 80lb braid!. Also trolled for barracuda with a hookup and loss after fight. Saw my first water spout, too. Seas where 3-4ft with swells breaking every 5-7 seconds. It was first for me for several catches. Great fun. I did take Dramamine, but never felt bad. In a Fermins Striper Boat (Guide on Lake Buchanan) he taught me a lot. Fished out of his 25 Ft. Tidewater center console boat with twin 150 Yamaha motors.,

What to do on Decker?
I recently bought a fishfinder for my kayak, and want to try her out on Decker. In the past I have just fished the reeds with frogs with pretty good success on the west side of the lake. I am wondering if I should try to go into open now, that I can “see” the fish, or just continue with what I have had been doing. Probably going out this weekend.

Ronnie will be hosting the Georgetown Tuesday Night tournament one more week. I will be there with the famous Samsquatch himself again with a new strategy. The fishing has been good. Come on out!
Entry fee is $40 per boat. $30 boat and $5 each person for big bass.
Registration and live well check from 5-5:45 at Cedar Breaks Park
You may go to your spot and the first cast is 5:45.
You must be inside the “no wake” buoy at Cedar Breaks before 9:15.
No dead fish will be weighed.
The limit is 5 fish any combination.
There is a slot. No fish between 14-18" may be kept.
Large mouth must be either 12-14" or over 18" to keep.
*Small mouth and Spotted Bass must be 14" or greater

Copano Bay 9/18-9/20
Light winds SE all weekend. Cloudy, high of 95. No red tide in Copano.
We fished a lighted pier a couple nights without much success. Little plastics brought up little trout, largest probably went 12". I even tried a few croaker and mullet and didnt do much better. We were fishing a slack tide, I suspect had we tried at 5am with moving water the action would have been better.
My cousin couldnt make it out on Sunday and I had expected to have to kayak fish, but he let me borrow the 24’ Shallow Sport. It drafts in 8" and can supposedly run in 3" and handles like you would think - with none of the boat in the water and just a little bit of prop when on plane it can do a 180 in about a quarter mile. We left at first light and being a tad uncomfortable in a borrowed boat, we put the power pole down and waded the northern shoreline of Copano for 3 hours. It was about 2.5" deep and most grass and mud bottom. The reds were thick and we did quite a bit of sight casting to tails. We fished tops (bone spook jr.) and tails (gulp 4"swim mullet and TTF flats killers) If you didnt land it on their nose, the lure would pick up grass and wouldnt get hit, so we only landed a few. Kept one at 25" for dinner.
I spent the ride back to Austin trying to justify to myself and the wife that we needed a boat to no avail.

Port A guided redfishing this weekend
Hi all, my wife and I booked a trip with Capt. Frankie Eicholz for this Sunday. Unfortunately this morning my wife broke her foot in at least 3 different places and we aren’t going to be able to make it. I’m putting this out there in the hopes that someone might be looking for a guided trip. Capt. Frankie is about the nicest guy/guide you will ever meet. Family friendly and pleasant to be around. While I’m reasonably confident that he will fill our spot, I wanted to give him a good recommendation on here and let the ABF members know he has a spot open this weekend if anyone can make it. My deposit is gone so I’m not in this for any money, just trying to help out an awesome guide that my wife and I have used for the past 3 years. Here is his website, tight lines. Got 10 acres planted in oats, winter wheat and turnips Sat. Soon as we got done we got ¾"-1" of rain on it. Put 2000 lbs of fertilizer on it as well. Bow season is almost here!!!

New deer lease.
Got on a new deer lease for this year in San Saba. Got to go pull some of the cards on the game cams and shoot some birds before the weather ran us off. Got a ton of deer on camera, the first buck I’m liking. We only had one camera working in the last two weeks, can’t wait until the other 4 actually have some pics on them.
Oh and apparently we have a rabbit problem….No coons, but 8 rabbits at one feeder???
This will not last long, I have a solution for them.

Throwin' a fly on Barton Creek
Went to Barton Creek this afternoon to see what was happening there. Too many people. It was 7:15 when I was able to wade and have enough space to cast. That was fine, because as the sun went down the bugs came out. Lots of dragon flies feasting, so I tied on on. After a few casts twits shore and no takers I started playing around with the fly on the surface. I tossed it on the surface and lifted the rod tip and gave it a few twitches. Just a few feet away from me It grabbed the attention of a four inch bass. Needless to say the fly was almost bigger than him, but he gave it a try.
I really liked the action I was getting with this technique, so a made a longer cast to deeper water and had an immediate blow up, but I missed. I made one more cast above my previous and was able to get a good hook set on a 13 inch large mouth.

Trailer Jack Lubrication - Salt
I don’t know if I saw it here or on 2Cool, but this has proved to be great advice. I used to be lucky to get two years out of each jack.
Instead of shooting grease into the fitting (if there is one), after every salt trip and after rinsing thoroughly with fresh water (or triple-dunking up to the coupling like I do), do this:
1. Let dry completely
2. Raise jack near top position
3. Set jack stand under tongue bar
4. Lower onto jack stand, then continue shortening to near bottom position
5. Swing jack completely upside down so that the wheel is on top and handle on bottom
6. Place container under jack to catch excess oil
7. Pour about 8 ounces of motor oil or gear oil down the tube (there’s usually a hole)
8. Let it drain out the gaps near handle into container
9. Swing it back to normal position over container - more oil will drain out
10. Wipe down thoroughly
11. Enjoy the gears working like _butter_ as you raise the jack, remove jack stand, and secure oil for recycling.

For Sale: Triton Trailer Oil Bath Hub Center Caps
These are factory/original hubs from my trailer. I was missing one and Discount Tire lost/broke another…..hence why I have 2. These are no longer made and you cannot find them in any shop/online retailer. I ordered 4 generic replacement ones from E-Trailer that do not say “Triton” on them.
These will fit any 14" rim on a Triton boat trailer. I’ve seen these go for $25 to $40 each on BBC. I am asking $30 for everything here on the forum. If they don’t sell in a week or so, I’ll list them on BBC for $20 each.

LBJ Crappie Fishing with Jess and the Perch - 9/19/15
It was good to get out for a few hours yesterday morning with Jess on LBJ. We hit the water a little after 7.
Got treated to a nice sunrise.
The crappie were pretty cooperative as we boxed a few at every stop. It was a good day for Purple and Gold!
Ended with 24 in a little over 3 hours on the water. Special shout out to my main man deckhand, Perch, who in between drinking about 5 bottles of apple juice and peeing 8 times managed to box every fish for us.
Great trip as always Jess. Thanks again! I had filets in the freezer and was sitting in my recliner in time to watch this.

Lake LBJ Sunday Morning 9-20-15 RESULTS
12 teams came out and fished this weekend. The fish were biting pretty well.
Coy and Larry Lechow took first and big bass with 5 fish for 15.45 with a 5.09 big bass.
Will and Bill (no last names) had 14.76 pounds with a 4.28 and a 4.07 big bass
Ben Zieger and Bailey Puckett took third place with 14.26 pounds with a 4.64 big bass
Chuck Ware and Cody Frasiert oil fourth with 11.45 pounds
Gene White and Brandon Ackerman took fifth with 10.17 pounds.
Greg Kidwell took sixth with 4 fish for 7.01 pounds
Don Gordon and Gary Tracker Boats took seventh with 3 fish for 5.74 pounds
Matt (poacher)and Jason(fat bastard) took eighth with 2 fish for 3.40
No one else weighed their fish but Mickey/Larry had fish, Vince had fish, and Alan/Dalton had fish.
The only boat to never fill their live well with water all day was the lousy fisherman posting this.

Bright Lake OSP
Ben and I met up with FischerFrank this morning. Ben and I got there about 8:30. Ben got a hit on his first cast and reeled in a 12 inch lmb on a 6 inch pumpkin yamasenko, wacky rigged. About 20 minutes later he reeled in a 14 inch on the same rig. I got skunked. It was nice to get a couple hours of throwing in lines with the boy and a chance to catch up with Frank. We also noticed a ton of baby bass swimming around the little pier so hopefully they get big soon. Rumors of the demise of fishing this little lake may be a bit premature.
